A year full of development steps – this is how 2024 can be summarized for the AEB-Stiftung's Uganda project. With a great deal of commitment on the ground and from Germany, key milestones were achieved that will improve the educational opportunities at St. Bruno School in the long term.

A key highlight is the almost completed construction of a new school building. It will create space for two additional year groups, which will be able to obtain the Ugandan A-level qualification (equivalent to A-levels) – a rare opportunity in the region. For many young people, this opens up the path to a university education for the first time.
In August, three colleagues from the AEB-Stiftung once again traveled to Uganda to personally accompany the developments on site. The focus was on the completion of the new school website and discussions with the school community, authorities, and other educational institutions. The aim was to strengthen cooperation in the long term. In return, a visit by a Ugandan delegation to the AEB headquarters in Stuttgart took place in May 2025.
The promotion of IT education is a central concern of the foundation. For example, the members of the school's own IT club are developing their own school website on their own initiative. Thanks to the financed improvement of the internet connection, digital content can now be implemented more reliably. Particularly good news: one pupil with exceptional IT talent has been awarded a scholarship for specialized training at an institute near Kampala – supported by the AEB-Stiftung and a private sponsor.
The sponsorship program is an integral part of the Uganda project. AEB employees provide individual support for pupils at St. Bruno School. The program is currently supporting 39 children. Personal contact – for example through correspondence – and visits on site promote mutual understanding and trust.
The first sponsored pupils are now ready to take the next step: some are continuing their education at the nearby vocational school Butende Technical Institute – with the support of their sponsors. The project work is also reflected in terms of content: for example, one pupil decided to train in the field of computer and information technology as a result of the IT lessons.
