Germany, Stuttgart
The story of an 8-year-old boy from a shared accommodation facility in Stuttgart, whose single mother has to contend with two delinquent teenage brothers and an environment of drugs and gang culture – one of the brothers is 12 years old and already a father – illustrates the challenges that children face in this environment. Unfortunately, this example is not an isolated case.
The mobile social work for children of Caritas and the Evangelische Gesellschaft Stuttgart (EVA) has already created important services for young people in Stuttgart. Through outreach social work (active help on site, directly in people's living environment), the specialists have succeeded in establishing themselves as a permanent fixture in the city districts. They are not only recognized by the young people as trustworthy contacts, but also reach their parents and siblings with important offers of support. This successful work is now to be extended to children in order to create a stable basis and prospects for the children at an early stage.
The project is aimed at children aged 8 to 12 who are growing up in socially difficult circumstances. The aim is to provide support at an early stage in order to prevent further social problems. This creates a more stable and protected environment for the children and their families, offering long-term security and prospects.
We are committed to expanding this project by covering the costs of implementation in one district. This will not only help the children and families affected, but also create a more stable and protected environment, leading to a better quality of life and a reduction in conflict in the long term.
