I can do it

The non-profit organization KinderHelden calls its teams of one child of primary school age and one adult "tandems". The organization asks elementary schools to nominate children with special needs and pairs them with a mentor from a pool of volunteers.

These tandems meet once a week. In addition to learning support, the children are also given new perspectives on leisure activities. This support, which goes beyond traditional tutoring, is the special feature of the project.

Objective
Support

Our aim was to set up our own tandem group with AEB employees. Unfortunately, we were unable to find the ten volunteers we needed, so we looked for a new way of providing support in addition to monetary support.

We found it in the "KinderHelden-Tag", an annual event at AEB's headquarters in Stuttgart, where up to thirty tandems completed a varied company rally with numerous courses and tasks. The KinderHelden Day took place in 2018 and 2019. The planned event had to be canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.

In 2018 and 2019, the AEB-Stiftung financed the match and training of ten tandems each. In the 2020 pandemic year, the AEB-Stiftung donated laptops to KinderHelden gGmbH to enable the tandems to switch to digital meetings.
