Learning English as a compulsory language of instruction

From elementary school onwards, school lessons in The Gambia are taught in English. This makes access to education even more difficult, as many parents have never learned a foreign language themselves. This is where the British association Afrikaya comes in and teaches English in its own preschool, which is also open to children from poor backgrounds.

Objective
Support

To enable children from poor backgrounds to attend school by teaching them the basics of the English language.

Afrikaya receives funds to expand the preschool's facilities, the use of which is decided jointly. A library and a first-aid room have already been set up. Fans have also been purchased to make learning easier in sometimes unbearable temperatures.
