How the foundation changed my life – Interview with Moritz

What was your first point of contact with the foundation?

Well, it helps to follow the internal AEB social media network from time to time. The foundation was introduced there and a call was made to present educational projects for the foundation. As my wife and I had recently been to an educational project (educare) run by friends in São Paulo, I thought it would be a good idea to report on it – and in the following, things took their course.

What are your tasks at the foundation?

As the project instigator of the educare project, I initially reported on how educare works and what my role is in it. When the project became interesting for the foundation, I initiated the first contacts between educare and the AEB-Stiftung. Today, my involvement in the project is more in a background role and I enjoy following how AEB and educare are planning and building a school next to São Paulo's Crackland.

What is your motivation to work for the foundation?

Education is an effective tool to positively shape the course of a person's life. What could be better than seeing how children can escape a life of violence and drugs through good education?

What has changed in your life as a result of the foundation?

The foundation hasn't turned my life upside down. Nevertheless, I am pleased to see that many other people at AEB are interested in helping the disadvantaged. I would never have dreamed that Mr. Belz's visit to São Paulo (as Chairman of the Foundation) would have opened many doors in local politics for educare's work. This means that it doesn't always have to be money that a foundation can give. It can also be the personality, competence, expertise, and practical help of AEB members, which gives a boost to educational projects.

What's your wish for the future of the foundation?

To provide support where multiplication occurs, where people rather than material things are primarily supported. Where AEB employees have a personal connection to the sponsored project.
