Vocational training as a bridge to a new life

The children from "Crackland", the largest neighbourhood run by dealers and drugs in the world, suffer from hunger and neglect. Violence, abuse and drugs are part of their everyday lives. The Brazilian association IBTE (Instituto Brasileiro Transformação pela Educação) has been campaigning for these children for years and receives significant support from its sister association educare e.V. from Germany. Since 2022, there has been a trainee program for young people, which aims to facilitate the transition into working life and the chance of a better future.

Objective
Support

Experience shows that young people between the ages of 14 and 17 in "Crackland" are particularly at risk of giving in to the temptations of life on the street. They lack prospects and the necessary self-confidence. The trainee project for young people that IBTE and educare e.V. have developed offers them the opportunity to take on responsibility, gain professional orientation, and earn their own money in the process.

The program consists of several stages. Initially, the young people support the team on site, look after younger children, help serve meals, and actively participate in sports and leisure activities. In the subsequent stages and when they reach the age of majority, the young people have the opportunity to initiate their own projects and workshops and, with the support of IBTE and educare e.V., apply for apprenticeships outside the campus.

We fully support the two-stage trainee program by providing money for the salaries, supervision and accommodation of the young people. In the future, we would like to contribute to IBTE itself becoming a training center for various skilled trades. To this end, we have jointly set up our own project. It is called Ponte = bridge, and is intended to facilitate the transition into working life. The launch is planned for 2027.
